Short CV

Sandra Fernau works as a research assistant at the Chair of Systematic Theology II (Ethics), Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg. After finishing her studies in sociology in Frankfurt am Main she worked as a PhD student and research assistant at the Criminological Research Institute of Lower Saxony in the project “Sexual abuse by Catholic clerics” (2011-2015). Within her PhD thesis she has examined the lasting and rather problematic impact of a religiously shaped background on coping with experiences of sexual abuse within the church as well as structural aspects of the incidents of sexual abuse by clerics. From 2015 to 2016 Sandra Fernau was a research assistant at the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) in Heidelberg and examined ethical and social challenges of big data-driven medicine. Currently, she is particularly working in the “MaxSynBio”-Consortium investigating public perceptions and social impacts of emerging bio- and information technologies and developing governance concepts in dealing with those developments.
